Fiji Blue Water Offshore Pattern (The Offshore “I Don’t Care Spread”)

The Fiji islands enjoy a whole variety of sport fish species from reef dwelling coral trout to oceanic blue marlin. Whilst we usually target particular species aboard our offshore game fishing vessel Bite Me at Matava in Fiji, we sometimes take resort guests out simply to catch dinner and have fun doing so.

Its general fishing (Otherwise known as “I don’t care what I catch just as long as its big and tasty”) so we cover all our bases and target a variety of different species.

Offshore, we run 15kg (30lb) Penn International 30Ts on Penn Millennium rods with a 9ft double connected to a short leader. In the winter time, (May – September) most lures are rigged on a wire trace because of the wahoo packs that congregate along the barrier reef.

The sample spread below should give you an idea of how we fish the outer barrier reef slopes and offshore blue water for anything and everything found out there.

Understanding Milspeak (Military Lingo)

One of the first lessons a new recruit learns is that the Army speaks a different language than the rest of the nation. Recruits will know some terms most of the time, such as “latrine” rather than “Bathroom.” Others are more obscure, like PT or BRM. So here are a few useful terms and phrases.

AAR refers to an “After Action Review.” Everything done in the Army should end with an AAR to identify lessons which can be used to improve the next such operation.

Blue and Red are terms used to describe the friendly and enemy forces. A “Blue on Blue” would be a friendly fire incident, while “Red on Red” would mean our enemies don’t get along with each other.

Combined is a term that means a command has elements from more than one nation involved. Joint is a term that means forces from more than one service is involved. If the US and Australian Armies are both represented in a task force, it is combined. If the Australians were replaced with Marines, it would be joint. It is possible to be both at once.

Concealment is something that protects you from being seen. Cover is something that protects you from being hit.

Despite all of the movies you’ve seen, EPW is Enemy Prisoner of War, while POW is Privately Owned Weapon. Similarly, a POV is a Privately Owned Vehicle, as opposed to a government vehicle.

FA stands for Field Artillery, one of the most important features distinguishing the Army from the Boy Scouts.

A “Formation” refers to having the unit assemble into a standard array, usually shaped like a rectangle. Everyone will remain there for inspections, speeches, roll calls or to keep the soldiers handy for later. When the formation is marching, and is about to cross a road, soldiers will be detailed to run out to block traffic. These are called “Road Guards.”

A “Gun” is a specific type of artillery tube, the thing you hold in your hands and point at the enemy is a “Rifle.” BRM is Basic Rifle Marksmanship, which means going out to the rifle range to practice shooting. Remember, pointy end towards the bad guy.

MSR stands for Main Supply Route. This is the path the supplies and replacements and such take. An ASR is an Alternate Supply Route.

OPFOR, Opposing Force. This is a friendly unit that is tasked with being the other side in a training event. Sometimes it is used ironically for real enemies.

PT is Physical Training, or exercise. It is not Practical Torture.

ROE stands for Rules of Engagement. These are strict rules that change over time as the chain of command reacts to changing situations and which is different from one theater to another. Knowing and following the ROE is serious business.

SNAFU might be described as Situation Normal, All Farked Up. JANFU is a Joint Army/Navy Fark Up. A FUBAR is Farked Up Beyond All Recognition.

SOF stands for Special Operations Forces, the ones that the news always calls Commandoes out of a sense of ignorance.

TLAR means That Looks About Right.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Stun Guns

A stun gun is already known to one of the most effective self-defense device that you can use to protect yourself from the people who want to do you harm. It is a small device that uses electricity to operate and to immobilize an individual when necessary. If you are going to use this device, you won’t have to worry about killing someone because it is a non-lethal device. This means that it is not designed to take someone’s life even if he/she is a criminal. Once you are in direct contact with an attacker and you hold the trigger, the device releases high-voltage electricity and this makes an attacker become incapacitated. But if you haven’t made a final decision yet to whether or not get a stun gun, then you might want to read further. The device is associated with its own advantages and disadvantages that would be helpful for our decision-making.

Advantages:

There are many advantages associated to using this particular device. This is a very good alternative to real firearms which are known to be very dangerous. There is no need for you to secure a license to carry the device or license to own one which is what should be done when you are planning to get a real gun. This means that there is no need for you to spend a lot of your time and effort in securing the necessary permits or licenses. And as mentioned earlier, this device does not really cause permanent harm to anyone. When you stun an attacker, he will just become disabled, incapacitated or unconscious for a certain period of time. Once the effect of the device wears off, everything will be back to normal again, just like nothing happened. When it comes to carrying the device, you can just place it inside your bag or purse. Because the device is small, you can easily conceal it. No one would know that you are bringing a self-defense weapon with you.

Disadvantages:

So much of the good things about the device, let’s talk about some disadvantages in this part. If you get a stun gun and you are not that knowledgeable on how to use it, then it can be a dangerous weapon for you. You should know how to properly use the device to prevent any accidents when using the device. And perhaps the major disadvantage in using the device is the fact that it can’t be used when you are not in direct contact with the attacker. The device can be used on any parts of the body provided that you are in direct contact with the attacker otherwise, the device is as good as useless.

Basically, for you to come up the most appropriate decision, you have to carefully weigh all the advantages and disadvantages in using the device. If you think that the advantages weigh more than the disadvantages, then perhaps it is just right for you to get one. But of course, you also need to take your needs and preferences into consideration before actually purchasing the device.

The Effects of Impulse in Sports

Impulse is a very subtle and little known aspect of our daily lives. Impulse can be seen in a variety of things such as cars to projectiles to rockets to sports and so on. In sports, American Football, Volleyball, Basketball, and about every other sport, impulse is implemented. For instance, one can observe impulse in his/her shoes: the cushion between the floor and one’s foot reduces the amount of force done on the foot from a reactionary force. The same data can be observed in padded sleeves: knee pads in Volleyball, compression wear in Football, jockstraps, and so on.

Impulse is a vector quantity defined as the product of the force acting on a body and the time interval during which the force is exerted. Impulse is part of Newton’s Second Law and goes hand in hand with momentum. The S.I. unit for Impulse is the Newton-Second.

A force causes acceleration and a change in the velocity for as long as it acts. Therefore, a resultant force that is applied over a longer period of time will produce a bigger change in linear momentum than the same force applied briefly: the change in momentum is equal to the product of the average force and duration. The same effect works vice-versa: a small force applied for a long time produces the same change in momentum (or the same change in impulse) as a larger force applied briefly. For example, in American Football, a linebacker will charge and tackle the quarterback. The force from the impact can potentially cause concussions or even break bones if the quarterback isn’t covered in paddings and protective gear. However, a force can be great enough to cause the previously stated injuries. Assume there is a 150 kilogram (kg) linebacker charging at a quarterback at 5 meters per second (m/s), the linebacker would apply a force of 750 newtons (N): Force = Mass x Acceleration. Now, compare this force to a 12-gauge shotgun, whose shrapnel would apply a force of approximately 500 m/s. As one can see, the amount of force that the linebacker applies is tremendous. However, the linebacker doesn’t apply that true amount of force. With a series of paddings and/or cushionings, the force is reduced to a minimal. The longer it takes for the force to go through the padding and connect to the body, the less force a person will receive. For example, if it takes 3 seconds for the force to connect, the force will be reduced to 250 N.

To conclude, Impulse is a fundamental that allows most aspects of our daily lives.

Hunting With Suppressors in Mississippi

Sound suppressors for firearms, commonly but incorrectly referred to as silencers, have been around for more than a hundred years. Long victimized by Hollywood as being something only an assassin, spy, or commando would use, it’s not a commonly known fact that thousands of these legal devices are owned by common everyday sportsmen who use them in dozens of states to game. One of these states is Mississippi.

Why

There are many valid reasons that some Mississippi hunters look to suppressors for taking both game and nuisance animals. Suppressors most obviously save hearing and allow the sportsman to hunt without the aid of in-ear or over-ear hearing protection. Since the ears are free, this increases situational awareness and makes the hunter both safer and more alert.

Since suppressors can eliminate up to 30% of the felt recoil of a firearm, they improve accuracy and make follow up shots easier if needed. Finally, the suppression of gunshots is kinder to the local community and helps preserve the tranquility of the outdoors.

A typical suppressor will drop about 20dB of sound from the muzzle blast and, when coupled with subsonic ammunition is extremely effective. Even if subsonic rounds are not available, the sound suppression of the device alone is still dramatic.

What’s Out There?

Suppressors come in two basic types: detachable ‘cans’ that screw onto threaded muzzle crowns at the end of the barrel, and integral built-in varieties that are designed around the gun. Either of these types is made for most caliber rifles and handguns. While almost any caliber can be suppressed, the most popular and inexpensive are those for .22LRs. The nearly indestructible TAC-65 made by Tactical Innovation costs about $250 and can be used on either pistols or rifles chambered for .22LR, producing air gun levels of sound. These make absolutely wicked squirrel and rabbit takers. Liberty Leonidas makes an integrally suppressed .300 Blackout upper that is ideal for quietly taking wild hogs, coyotes, and even whitetail at range. Gemtech, AWC, YHM, and Shark are other well-known manufacturers that make both types of suppressors in everything from .22 to .300 Win Mag.

Is it legal?

In a word, yes*. Factory-made suppressors were readily available and widely used in this country from the late 19th century through the 1930s. They could be bought over the counter and via mail order until declared regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934. This is where the asterisk (*) comes in at.

About a dozen states (CA, MA, Ill, et al) prohibit their residents from owning otherwise legal and federally registered/regulated suppressors. About a dozen more allow ownership but have laws in effect that prohibit use in hunting. Mississippi, gratefully, is one of the 20+ states that allows both possession of NFA-compliant suppressors and grants their use in hunting of all legal game in season. MS Sportsman verified this through communication with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

Incidentally, if you are curious about neighboring states: Alabama, Tennessee, and Louisiana all allow possession of registered suppressors. Louisiana allows the taking only of “nuisance non-game” animals while Alabama prohibits all hunting with a suppressor. Tennessee’s laws are much like Mississippi’s, where all game animals are legal.

Suppressor use is on the rise nationwide. In 2010 alone some 22,265 legal suppressors were sold, 348 of those in Mississippi.

How do you get one?

Legal suppressors are neat but you have to jump through a couple hoops to get them. First off, don’t rush out and make your own or buy one from a guy who knows a guy. Do it the right way. Find a nearby Class III FFL holder. There are several of them located across the state from Oxford to Ocean Springs. They are licensed to buy and sell NFA-regulated firearms and suppressors. Once you do, they can handle the purchase and transfer to you of a legal suppressor. They can walk you through completing your BATFE Form 4, which is a multi-page application that includes a set of fingerprints, a passport photo, and a signature from your local chief law enforcement officer (who are normally quite understanding). Then send this all in with a check for a $200 tax stamp from Uncle Sam and in about two months you can come and pick up your new critter getter.

Once it’s yours, it’s a keeper that even under current legislation is grandfathered to you forever.

It gives a completely new meaning to the term deer whisperer.

The Warrior’s Way Review (That Cowboys Vs Ninjas Movie)

Pretty much all one can glean from the trailers for The Warrior’s Way is that it has something to do with cowboys vs. ninjas. No one needs more than that honestly, but the film’s plot turned out to be surprisingly complex. While The Warrior’s Way doesn’t have the smallest budget in the world, it’s clearly a limited one, but the filmmakers spent what they had in all the right places.

Right off the bat, from the first scene to the last, what stood out to me most in The Warrior’s Way were the costumes. The costumes were over the top, and seem to have been inspired by Mortal Kombat and various space western animes like Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. I want one of the dusters that the cowboys wear, I can then officially change my middle name to McAsswhoop.

Beyond some quick action at the beginning of the movie, the first half of The Warrior’s Way is pretty damn slow. Combine this with a weak supporting cast and hit or miss acting, and I became pretty restless for action. The films protagonist, Yang (played by Dong-gun Jang), leaves his country and clan with the last living descendant of their rival clan, due to his inability to murder a baby. Yang ends up heading to the American West to find one of his old friends in a small circus town by the name of Lode. However, upon arrival he discovers that his friend is dead. From there, hardcore laundry service ensues (Don’t question.) The film then introduces a few different factions and the plot gets more complex than I had originally expected.

There are actually two antagonists in The Warrior’s Way. The first is The Sad Flute ninja clan and their leader, appropriately named Saddest Flute. The Sad Flutes are dead set on eliminating the last of their rival clan, and this faction as a whole reminds me of Ra’s Al Ghul’s assassins from Batman Begins. We also have The Colonel and his men, a rogue platoon who periodically hold the town of Lode hostage so the Colonel can rape their young girls. Clearly the Colonel is the enemy easiest to hate. When all three factions collide in the second half of the movie, it gets real.

There are a ton of gimmicks used to shoot The Warrior’s Way, but they are all well executed and seldom repeated. Battles that clearly borrowed from films like 300, Blade, Resident Evil, and the Matrix are brutally violent, and some of the more over the top deaths will have you laughing at their absurdity or cringing in pain. Yang is consistently dodging bullets and slicing his foes into pieces with lightning speed. Although the sword fights aren’t as epic, or as evenly matched, as those you would find in films like Hero or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, they are still just as fun to watch.

The CGI in The Warrior’s Way is really hit or miss, and it’s clear the filmmakers distributed their funds carefully in this regard. A generic explosion that serves to push the narrative along may look horrible, like something from an early 90’s PC game, but a complex slow motion melee looks amazing, with blood, bullets, and limbs flying everywhere.

The good forgives the bad in The Warrior’s Way, and although it’s still pretty much what I was expecting, it’s not the disappointment I thought it would be. There have been far worse offerings this year in the action realm (I’m looking at you Expendables), so action fans shouldn’t miss this one.

The Madness Chronicles – Episode 52

In our 52nd and last episode of the Madness Chronicles for 2020, we’ll look at the madness growing of our federal agencies being armed to the teeth. Remember, madness is a state of being mentally ill, severely, extremely foolish behavior, and a form of frenzied or chaotic activity. Let’s take a look at some really maddening proposition of our police agencies being better armed than our Marines.

Do you realize in these United States that our federal agencies have more men armed than do our United States Marines? The Fed’s have over 200,000 agents with firearms, the Marines 180,000. And these are the people who want to take our guns.

In the old days, the Internal Revenue Service was a force to be reckoned with because they would show up for an audit and take your stuff. Now, the IRS spent $21.3 million on guns, ammunition, and military style equipment in the past five years. They currently have 2,159 Special Agents to use all that equipment.

Moving over to Health and Human Services, their Inspector General’s office has 1,300 guns, including one shotgun, five submachine guns, and 189 automatic firearms. Apparently, they have a get stringent policy when administering those mega-billions of welfare across the nation. Anyone getting a little concerned yet?

How about the Environmental Protection Agency? Surely they don’t need firearms? Not so fast. The EPA stockpile includes 867,000 rounds of ammunition, 600 guns, and they just spent $61,650 purchasing’ body armor systems’ for 137 special agents. The climate wars must be heating up?

And if you think that is scary, check this out. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has ‘special agents’ equipped with machine guns and AR-15s. And even more terrifying still, we have a museum and zoo force. Say what? The Smithsonian Institution employed over 600-armed officers. And these people receive training from our very own military special operations forces. Why?

The madness continues with the Department of Homeland Security, who are the proud owners of over 250,000 weapons. And this does not include the Transportation Security Administration or TSA. Those friendly men and women at the airports do not disclose any information about their weaponry. Since the TSA has over 50,000 employees in airports across the nation, we can assume they are each packing heat.

In a recent audit covering three years of the Department of Homeland Security, they found the department to be, well, pretty insecure. It seems the DHS lost 228 guns and 1,889 badges, and a mere 25 secure immigration stamps. Don’t you feel better now knowing how well they control their precious goods?

The Veterans Administration is in the mix. The VA spent $25.5 million on security. The expenditures included 11 million rounds of ammunition for their 3,957 security guards. That should be enough to fend off the veterans for awhile.

All of the expenditures mentioned are non-Department of Defense. For instance, the top spender is the Department of Homeland Security who spends right at $100 million a year on weapons, ammunition, and military equipment. Coming in second is the Department of Justice at $50 million a year. Even some you wouldn’t expect are in on the action. Take the Social Security Administration, they spend over $100 thousand a year, as does the Small Business Administration. That is the definition of madness.

2020 ushered in an America on life support. 2020 leaves America removed from life support, waiting to die. It will go down as the year of madness.

May we wake from this madness before it’s too late. I wish you good health, and until next time, have fun, enjoy life, and watch out for the madness amongst us. 2020 is gone, and the Democratic communists are running amok.

Reloading Supplies to Get You Started

If you have decided to start reloading your own ammunition for your pistol or rifle you’ve made a wise and cost-efficient choice that might just turn into a satisfying new hobby you will enjoy for many years to come.

The following list details just some of the materials and equipment you need to start reloading.

Reloading Press

Reloading presses come in three types for various types of reloading needs.

• Single stage: Generally considered the best type of reloading press for those starting out or with limited experience, a single stage loading press requires few adjustments and is the least expensive of the three kinds of presses.

• Turret: With turret reloading presses, users can load up to a couple of hundred rounds per hour and allows you to mount multiple dies on the press. An extra hole to mount a powder measure to increase production rates is available on some turret presses. This time-saving machine is ideal for people who want to reload larger batches of ammunition than a single stage press will accommodate.

• Progressive: Ideal for high volume reloading, progressive presses can turn out up to 500 rounds an hour. Most progressive presses need additional set up and maintenance time to properly operate smoothly and safely. Multiple die stations hold dies and powder measures for easy access.

Reloading Manuals

Never reload your ammunition without consulting a reloading manual. Manuals are the recipe books needed to provide exactly what and how much of ingredient to use for your specific reloading application. Bullet types, powder type, and charge amounts for each configuration are listed with all of the reloading supplies you need.

Reloading Dies

Reloading dies are a critical component in the process of precision ammunition reloading. There are a wide variety of dies on the market for any kind of pistol or rifle. Whether you are shooting for precision, versatility, or quantity, make sure you are getting the right reloading die for the application.

Powder Scale

There are electric and traditional balance scales available to accurately measure the amount of powder you need for each reload. Balance scales are easier to calibrate and more suited for beginners. Electronic scales can quicken the process of reloading, but run the risk of electronic interference and are more expensive to purchase and repair.

Calipers

Calipers measure the brass to match your specifications and used to adjust the reloading die to get the bullet to your desired length. Calipers come in a wide variety of quality and price.

Reloading Starter Kits

A reloading starter kit is exactly what it sounds like. If you are just starting to reload your own ammunition or have limited experience, purchasing a starter kit will make sure you have the reloading supplies you need to start saving money immediately. You can replace or supplement specific components of parts or gear as you get more comfortable and have a better understanding of how it works and what works best for you.

Methods on Testing the Voltage and Effectiveness of Your Stun Gun

The stun gun is a device designed for personal protection. Its size is small, but its power is great. Because of its size, you can place it inside your bag or pocket. Because of its great power, you can take down anyone who tries to attack you. Its volts of electricity will cause temporary incapacitation. This is what most adults have today to ensure their safety.

However, you might be hesitant to use one especially if you are unsure of its voltage capacity and effectiveness. If this is your first time to use the safety device and you want to test its voltage and effectiveness, you must learn about the following methods. These are simple ways on how to safely test the device. You will be able to see whether it emits the exact voltage of electricity and also conclude that it will be effective in taking down the attacker.

Before you decide to purchase the device, you can gauge its effectiveness by asking the sales representative to test it for you. You can look at how it is done. Make sure that as they measure the voltage, it matches with what they placed on the label of the device. You can also learn from them on how it is used so that you will know whether it is the most effective weapon that you can get for your safety.

You can also test the stun gun voltage and effectiveness by yourself. However, you must remember to exercise caution. You would not want to get hit by one because you will surely experience mild shock. You must not come in contact with the probes. It is safe for you to touch the following parts. The first one is the switch that allows you to turn on the device. The second one is the safety zone plate that is about one and a half inches.

If you have a voltmeter, you can use it to do the measurement. You must still exercise caution since you will be handling electricity. You just need to attach the measuring equipment to the leads of the device so that you will be able to find out about the volts of electricity that the device emits. It can reach to about a million. With such powerful device, you can protect yourself from harm.

You can also try to test fire the device by preparing a sheet of metal. First, you must press the switch on. If you will see an arc formed in between the two electrodes, this means that the device is functional. Instantly discharge it by pressing it on the sheet of metal. You will know that your device is now safe to use when a spark is emitted.

These are the methods that you can do to test the effectiveness of the stun gun and its voltage as well. They are very easy to perform. However, you must take extra caution when doing such because you would not want to become a victim of your own carelessness.

Complete Overview of Hepatitis B and How to Treat It

It is a viral infection caused by the hepatitis B virus that attacks the human body’s liver.

This virus has been present in the world since the Bronze Age. Its evidence was found in 4,500-year-old human remains. According to a study in 2018, the viral-named genomes found by the shotgun sequencing method became one of the oldest to recuperate from vertebrate samples. It was observed that a few older hepatitis viruses still infect humans, while a few became extinct. This refutes the statement that the hepatitis B virus was originated from the new world.

In 1967, Dr. Blumberg and his colleagues found the virus. They discovered the blood test, which was used to detect it. In 1969, the hepatitis B vaccine was invented by Dr. Blumberg and his team.

Types of hepatitis B

There are two types of hepatitis B viruses: acute and chronic.

1. Acute hepatitis B virus

This happens at the beginning, within six months after someone comes in contact with the virus. It is a short-term illness and is curable. Some people suffering from this have a mild illness, and some even have no symptoms at all.

2. Chronic hepatitis B virus

This is a long-lasting illness. The virus present for more than six months in the body is called chronic hepatitis B virus. It leads to various serious problems like inflammation, fatal liver cancer, and cirrhosis of the liver. Treatment can eliminate the disease or can slow down the disease’s progress.

Symptoms of hepatitis B

Acute hepatitis B (short-term hepatitis) rarely shows symptoms, so you will hardly notice any symptoms in children below 5 years of age suffering from hepatitis.

Some noticeable symptoms are:

  1. Jaundice
  2. Fever
  3. Stomach trouble
  4. Light-colored discharge
  5. Fatigue
  6. Belly pain
  7. Joint pain

Symptoms may not show until one to seven months after getting infected. Even chronic hepatitis does not always show symptoms. But with a blood test, you can easily find out whether it is chronic or acute.

Causes of hepatitis B

The hepatitis B virus causes hepatitis B disease. This virus moves from one body to another by semen, blood, and fluids. But unlike the coronavirus, it doesn’t spread by coughing and sneezing. Some ways of spreading are:

1. Sexual contact

When people come in sexual contact with someone already infected with the hepatitis virus, it enters the body through blood, semen, vaginal excretion, and saliva.

2. Sharing syringes and needles

Using syringes and needles which are tainted with infected blood.

3. Mother to child

The virus can easily pass from pregnant women to their child who is already suffering from hepatitis B. It’s better to consult with a doctor if you are suffering from hepatitis B but want to become pregnant.

Risk factors

The risk of getting infected with the virus can increase if you:

*Have sexual contact without protection with multiple sex partners or someone who is already suffering from this disease.

*Sharing needles and syringes

*Come in contact with a chronic HIV-infected person

*Traveling where the HBV infection rate is high

Treatment

1. Acute hepatitis B

For this, you may not need any treatment. Only rest, good nutrition, fluids, and some hepatitis B medicines like Barracuda will be required to fight the virus.

2. Chronic hepatitis B

Here, you may need treatment for fighting virus-like medications. An Interferon injection is recommended for young people who don’t want long-term treatment. A liver transplant is a good option for those whose liver is completely damaged.
