Resurgent Of Old School Music That Moves You

After several decades of disappearance, over thirty plus years; thirty-six to be exact, there has been an resurgent in some old school music that moves you. Back in the day in the late spring of May the latter part of that month in the year1983 there was a group from out of Dayton, Ohio named “New Horizons” who hit the top 40 Billboard R&B music charts with a single titled “Your Thing Is Your Thing” produced by Roger Troutman from the album “Something New” Well, that was the end of that followed by another single titled “Searching For That Lady” taken from the groups second album “Gonna Have Big Fun” in1984; you can’t really say a one hit wonder as much as you can say a one miss wonder.

Whatever happened to the Thomas Brothers’ professionally known as New Horizons? Well the band disbanded in late1986 and parted ways to pursue other professional interest. Lead singer Mark Thomas had the pleasure of touring the country and around the world with Zapp and the late Roger Troutman playing drums and singing background vocals in the late 80’s, and his younger brother Bart followed suit and is stilling touring with Zapp as of today.

Mark also produced two solo projects that were mere misses pka The Marc Anthonee Project in the summer of 1996 and in June 2018 he released a titled CD “Getta Know Ya” by M.A. Neither one of these projects hit the charts at all. Well, you may ask about the other members of New Horizons; guitarist and lead singer Tim Abrams pursued other career choices and played with other bands, while founder of the group Art Thomas Jr. stepped out of the spot-light altogether and is now an ordained Minister sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

Which leads us to baby brother Varges, Varges is the youngest of his siblings and plays keyboards, bass, talk-box, Melotica, percussion, lead and background vocals. He also is a Producer, Arranger, Composer and Entertainer. He has his first single “Give It To Ya” taken from his first forth-coming CD titled Destiny; which is being heard on IheartRadio, Spotify, Pandora, and Jango.com music apps to name a few across the country and around the world. The CD is comprised of old school, R&B, smooth jazz, Southern Soul, Steppin, funk and inspirational music displaying his many facets. The sound is appealing to young and middle age listeners’ who enjoy a nice groove with a soulful touch of rhythms.

You ask how I know so much about the history of New Horizons and Varges Thomas; well that’s because I am the unknown third brother of the Thomas’ the author of this article.

Some History Facts on Music Videos

Music videos represent a crucial part of the music industry. Artists owe their careers to music videos as they are being given the chance of impressing the public not just with their vocal talent, but also with their looks or moves.

Thirty years ago, music video used to be less important then it is nowadays. MTV (Music Television) was the phenomenon that gave so much power and importance to the music video. MTV started broadcasting in 1981 in the USA and it marked the beginning of the music video’s ruling over the music industry. The first video ever played on MTV was ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’ by The Buggles. As MTV was broadcasting 24-hour-a-day music, music videos were needed to be produced. Consequently, music video began to play an important role in artists’ careers. It is considered that even Madonna’s career has been greatly influenced by her videos that presented a sexy, appealing look of the artist. Some experts say that Madonna has been inspired by the image that the actress Greta Garbo has used in her silent movies. MTV has been highly controversial: some saw as the beginning of an amazing, new, fresh era in music, others considered it to mark the end of true musical talent, as artists have been become more appreciated for their looks instead of their vocal abilities.

Nowadays, the music video is as important as the song itself, sometimes even deciding the success of a song or artist. Collections of music videos are being sold on tapes or DVDs. Music video’s greatest fans are apparently watching them muted just to enjoy their artistic value, as they consider it to be a new form of art. They consider that a music video should be assessed based on its visual qualities and not on the song quality. It seems that the music ‘gurus’, corporate managers, have realised the potential of using female sex-appeal in music videos, therefore this feature is being used excessively as it is more popular for the public.

The birth of the music video has created a new type of directors: video directors. MTV started even listing directors with video credits and this profession has become more and more popular. But it seems that most video directors don’t specialise in this particular art form, they see it as being just a step on the way to directing a movie. Many start directing videos or commercials, hoping to get the recognition to build a name and to direct a movie. It seems that even video directors admit the fact that a music video is secondary to the song itself.

In conclusion, although music video’s fans have tried to elevate this form of entertainment to the title of an art form, the music video is eventually just a work of commerce, destined to sell a product: the song.

Akon Freedom – A New Chapter

Akon, or Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam, has over the last few years taken the step up among the really big stars. He has cooperated with some of the biggest stars in the music industry, including Eminem, Gwen Stefani and Chamillinaire. In 2004 Akon released his first album “Trouble.” The album got a lot of attention from its leading single, “Lonely”, which became a huge hit all over the world. “Lonely” actually reached the top spot in the charts in UK, Germany and Australia. The album itself also reached number one in the UK.

His next album, “Konvicted”, was released in 2006. “Konvicted” included cooperation with Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Styles P. The first single from the album was “Smack That.” The single, which included Eminem, was an instant success, and peaked at #2 in the Billboard top 100 singles chart. His second single from “Konvicted”, “I want to love you”, became Akon’s first #1 hit on the Billboard chart. With Snoop Dogg included on the track, they topped the U.S. charts for two weeks. “Konvicted” itself debuted at #2 on the Billboard top 200 album chart, with 285,000 sales in the first week. The single “Smack That” still holds the record for the biggest leap in the Billboard list, with its jump from 95th to 7th place.

With these two huge successes, Akon has gone from a virtually unknown to one of the brightest stars on the music heaven. His third album “Freedom” is right around the corner, being released on December 2. In several interviews, Akon has said that “Freedom” will include tracks that has a more “Euro-club scene” style than his previous releases. Judging from the success he has had with cooperating with other artists with other styles, this will surely be something you should not miss. Two singles has already been released from the album, “Right now” and “I’m so paid”. “Right Now” made an impact on the charts right from the get-go, and if we can expect some more of those easy-listened pop tracks in the same style, Akon’s Freedom will surely be a hit.

8 Amazing Gadgets You Really Must Have

A slump in economic climate inevitably inspires a whole new level of creativity from an assembly of competent entrepreneurs, leading to profitable economic times and booming businesses. It is part of a natural cycle. The superiority of automation and technology that exists on the globe today has freed us from the bonds of putting all our efforts into basic survival. We have time on our hands for expanding our mental horizons and according to the marketplace, far more disposable income than ever before. As technology moves forward in quantum leaps and bounds it unceasingly delivers us gadgets and toys that improve our quality of life and give us plenty of entertainment value. Here are some of the most interesting gadgets (some not quite on the market yet) you will want to have the moment you know they exist…

Electronic Grocery Tags

This is a gadget for shopping soon to be available that will potentially speed up the amount of time you spend a checkout counter at the grocery store. It’s a radio frequency identification tag for groceries being developed by researchers from two universities – South Korea’s Sunchon National University and Houston’s Rice University. The tag incorporates semiconducting ink containing carbon nanotubes for printing electronics on plastic and paper that will emit a radio frequency. A frequency detector at the checkout instantly detects everything in your cart so you get to walk out with your cart in seconds flat, especially if you remembered to bring your own “green” canvas shopping bags and pack your items at your car. This is the same technology currently being used with passports that allow travelers to instantly pass through airport security check points. If you don’t like the idea of your food broadcasting inside your pantry, the radio waves can be blocked by covering the tags with aluminum foil.

LED Light Cake Tray

Ever suffered through the embarrassment of baking a perfectly scrumptious, triple-layer chocolate cake for your dinner guests but totally botch it when you try to slice the correct number of pieces? This gadget for bakers is your savior. It’s a 12-inch cake tray with LED lights that show you exactly where to make the slice. After pressing the power button it gives you the option of 2 to 12 slices. (FYI – do the math; the lucky people using the 2-slice option get a 6-inch piece of cake.) This amazing tray includes a spinning feature that helps guide your hand while topping it with icing. It also plays a chipper rendition of “Happy Birthday” if you are a person unwilling to sing out loud in public. The cake tray is sold through Amazon for about $40 US.

Fish School

Pet lovers understand the feeling of degradation that happens when someone uncouthly accuses them of having stupid goldfish. Now you can prove them wrong and keep them quiet forever. The Fish School is a training gadget for goldfish, guppies and other small species that teaches them to do rather impressive tricks. Based on a trial and reward method you will soon have your fish swimming through hoops, playing football and eating out of your hand. It comes with an excellent instruction DVD and detailed written instructions. You could have guessed it’s available at “iwantoneofthose.com” for £24.99.

Flexible Solar Panels

Admit it – you would not mind getting more exercise and fresh air but the thought of being outdoors long enough to run out of charge on your cell phone or laptop computer weighs more heavily on your mind than the extra pounds you need to lose. There is a solution! Flexible or foldable solar panels were created for people that like to hike, backpack, fish or sail the open waters but cannot live without their portable electronic devices. The panels can roll or fold up into a tight, neat package and easily tossed into a bag or a backpack. They are made for rugged use and come with lengthy extension cords and attachments for easily charging 12V batteries. This is enough juice to run your electronics and laptops. “Flexsolarcells.com” sells them through eBay and Amazon anywhere from $80 to $3,000 US.

Heineken Bot

While this is no replacement for a live barmaid, the Heineken Bot does have appeal for bar patrons even if they don’t drink Heineken. The robot, designed by the super techies at Middlesex University, drifts around the bar top on sturdy wheels waiting to serve those in need. It cheerfully dispenses a full cup of lager to the patron that waves his/her hands above it head. A sonar sensing device on the droid lets it know it has a customer. It is not currently sold to individual consumers, but you can contact your Heineken distributor if you are a bar owner.

Touch Screen Skin

Touch screen computer fanatics will be thrilled to know research has taken the “touch” concept to a whole new level. Carnegie Mellon University and Microsoft’s Redmond research lab have teamed up and are working on a prototype system dubbed “Skinput” that uses your skin as the screen and input device. A micro-sized pico projector (used in handheld devices) embedded in an armband projects images on the user’s hand or forearm. When the user taps on an image the device acoustically determines which icon has been touched and activates it. In effect your own body becomes your computer screen. The technology is still in early stages of development.

Ultimate Lounge Chair

The ability to relax after a long, hard day at the office has become the focus of entrepreneurs attempting to grab a portion of the ever-growing basket of disposable income. Hammacher Schlemmer does it best. It manufactures the Vibroacoustic Relaxation Lounger that cannot be beat, even if you feel like you have been. It sends low frequency sound vibrations through the lounge chair’s mattress for soothing the mind and body. It comes with headphones that play calming music or any music of your choice through a CD or MP3 player. The soft foam cushion contours to your body, surrounding you in total comfort. It sells for just under $2,000 US.

USB Coffee Warmer

Here is a gadget that will make you very happy if you have a laptop computer and drink hot beverages. That would be most of us right? It is a “plug & play” USB powered coffee warmer that keeps your coffee, tea or hot cocoa steaming. There is no driver required for this nifty little gadget; simply plug it into a convenient USB port on your laptop and away you go. On the flip side, if you prefer chilled beverages there are refrigeration models available that keep your drink cold. Either model is usually available through Amazon or eBay for around $10 unless they are out. It is one of those things you just “have to have.”

History of the Dressage Musical Freestyle

While dressage has its roots in ancient Greece, it was in the seemingly magical displays of horsemanship in Italy and France of the 16th to 19th centuries that haute ècole, or high school dressage and riding to music developed. Northern Italy was the center of equestrian arts in Renaissance Europe during the late 16th century and it was here that what would become the musical freestyle in competitive dressage was born. Not in Pignatelli’s school in Naples which is one of the most famous but in the schools of Fiaschi and Fredirico Grisone music became intimately connected to dressage. Both men wrote early treatises on dressage and included the use of music. While Pignatelli is known for being the first to train horses in pillars, bringing a new aesthetic to training a horse, it is the musical displays that have lasted and made it into international competition.

In Italy in the 1500s, music was introduced to the equestrian arts first to teach rhythm and tempo to riders, and soon after to accompany the lavish horse ballets. Grisone encouraged the use of the voice to help the horse’s tempo. He wrote a treatise in 1550 which was soon translated into French and German. Fiaschi included in his 1556 treatise short musical tunes corresponding to a horse’s gaits and movements. Thus, the first musical vocabulary for dressage was put onto paper. Fiaschi encouraged his riders to learn music well enough to sing while riding and to ride as if he were playing rare and excellent music.

As early as 1548 in Lyons France costumed chevaliers amazed audiences with their horses leaping, turning, and jumping to the sound of small bells attached to the horses: “So pleasantly resonate that the harmony of their sweet sound did not tickle the spirits of the astonished people any less than the flash of the gleaming gems dazzled their eyes so that those watching did not know if they dreamt or lived.” By 1602 La Broue wrote that without musical sensibilities one could never have the sensitivity to the horse’s beat and tempo necessary to ride well.

In a spectacular feat, Pluvinel, who re-introduced the gentle horse training techniques of xenophon, created a horse ballet in 1612 to honor the engagement of Louis XIII to Anne of Austria. The ballet was but a few minutes in a long day and evening of a lavish parade, jousting, and a carrousel. Pluvinel stole the show when the horses of the spectacularly costumed riders leapt and danced and circled and jumped, captivating the audience.

While dressage shares a long history with music, musical displays were absent from the competitive arena until fairly recently. From the early 1900s competitive dressage drew more on its military roots than the roots of entertainment. In the 1980s horses once again seemed to dance in the arena when organizers brought the musical freestyle to international competitive dressage, aiming to bring spectators to what was often seen as a fairly boring event. The 1996 Atlanta Games were the first Olympics that added the freestyle to the format and today musical freestyles attract large crowds to see the dancing horses.

Keyword Analysis: Goodbye, Captcha and 100 Limit!

A lot of SEO specialists when asked which keyword tool they use (not considering pro SEO software) will immediately tell you “Google AdWords Keyword Tool!” For sure this search instrument has gained great popularity in the SEO industry, since it helps get the necessary keyword data in a structured way.

However, there’s one interesting thing not all people are aware of. The external keyword tool has limited functionality:

– It shows only 100 results (omitting some interesting key phrases I’ll mention a bit later.)

– It makes you type in the CAPTCHA to make sure you are not an evil bot.

In fact, the solution for this inconvenience is so simple, I can’t believe so many people still do not know about it. So to unlock the full functionality you need to:

1. Go to google.com and login to your account

2. Find adwords.google.com/

3. Then you’ll be redirected to the AdWords interface where you need to configure some settings that include your time zone and preferred currency. Click Next.

4. Hooray! Your AdWords account has been created. Now all you need is sign in.

5. That’s it. After you log in, find the Tools and Analysis tab and choose the Keywords tool. Now you have a full-functional tool that shows times more keywords for free. Though it lacks some cool features of professional SEO software, it is still great for a majority of marketers.

If you are still skeptical about signing up, I will tell you about a small experiment I have carried out. Say, I am an owner of a e-commerce shop, selling some stuff for kids. And one great day I decide to invest in a new type of themed good related to the greatest story by Alexander Milne, Winnie the Pooh. My first step is to analyze the search demand for this topic, so I go to the external keyword tool (with no AdWords account) and get 100 keywords related to “Winnie the Pooh.”

winnie the pooh bedding

winnie the pooh dvd

winnie the pooh music

winnie the pooh baby shower

winnie the pooh costumes

winnie the pooh watch

winnie the pooh toy

Looks good, right? But wait, most of these keywords are marked with “High competition,” which means that starting an ad campaign might be quite expensive.

Ok, now let’s get more data to decide on. I login into the AdWords account and perform the same experiment with the same key phrase. As a result, I get 800 (!) keywords, instead of 100. I just love the idea of getting more information, since it gives much more freedom with my further actions. Let’s see, what else I’ve found out:

winnie the pooh poetry – 1,600 searches

winnie the pooh colouring book – 1,900 searches

pooh puzzles – 3,600 searches

and much-much more!

Besides, these keywords are “low” in competition, so it may save me some money.

Probably, someone would be also interested in misspellings and variations:

winniethepooh – 8,100 searches

win the pooh – 9,900 searches

For sure, it may not be that mathematically correct, but for eight times more keywords implies eight times more ideas. Now, the best thing is get straight to action and find lots of new super-convertible keywords!
